Our inbox gets filled up every day with emails from agents and acts asking to play at Holler House. It quickly adds up. The club hosts one band a month. That means we can only host 12 bands in a year. From 2025, we aim to host 10 shows so that the organiser can get some much needed downtime.
Which brings me to the next point – the club is a passion project and not a commercial venture. We do not have a council, a pub, bar, or a venue either funding or underwriting this club. I have a day job and I pour all my monthly savings into the club. I hire the venue – a first rate one with top notch sound and lighting, I pay for the sound engineer, and ensure there is top quality photography and videography of the event so that the artist and fans remember it long after the venue. I do not get any share of the bar takings.
The club is hosted in a venue with a standing capacity of 175. Thus, some considerations come into play when booking an act. The gig needs to sell at the least 100 tickets so that the acts can be paid their worth. There are other criteria such as the genre. The club promotes Rhythm and Blues. There are superb venues, festivals and clubs that cover rock or blues rock sounding bands. We are founded to promote the slightly old school sound. It is not a science, but you get the gist. The decision of the club director is final on this.
